Is it time to revisit sacred ground?
“Then God said to Jacob, “Get ready and move to Bethel and settle there. Build an altar there to the God who appeared to you when you fled from your brother, Esau.”” ~ Genesis 35:1 NLT
Later in Jacob’s life God instructs him to return to the spot where God first appeared to him when he was in distress and in need. God met with him at Bethel over 20 years prior, and God wanted him to remember that encounter. God also wanted to meet with him again, speak to him again, and he chose that same location. For Jacob, Bethel was sacred ground.
Where has God met with you in the past when you hit a low point and provided what you most needed? Where have you encountered the living God in such a real and powerful way that you walked away forever changed? Can you remember?
There are two places like that for me - the four months I lived in England as a college student and the time I spent at Camp Barakel in northern Michigan in high school and college. God appeared to me in those places, God spoke to me, and those encounters literally changed the course of my life.
What is God calling you to remember?
Should you plan a trip back? (I told Sandi this morning that we need to get back to Camp Barakel soon.)
Does God want you, once again, to walk on that sacred ground? Is there something he wants to say that you can best hear standing on that spot?
